Father Christmas comes to Hornsea Freeport

Hornsea Freeport came to life on Saturday morning, 14th November when Santa arrived with his reindeer. Assisted by members of the Rotary Club of Hornsea and East Riding, Father Christmas landed at the shopping complex after a long and tiring night travelling.

The "Elves" who looked after him were delighted that they could help raise enough money for the various charities the Rotary Club support and worked hard throughout the weekends of November and December!

Music for Everyone!Mike&Celia

28 february 2015

Over 200 people enjoyed a very varied evening of local musical talent held at St Mary's Church, Beverley. This was was jointly presented with the Rotary Club of Beverley. This year's concert benefitted St Andrew’s Children’s Hospice of Grimsby and the Dementia Care Unit at Hull Royal Infirmary.

The evening opened with Bach’s Toccata and Fugue, magnificently played by organist Mark Pybus, director of music at St Mary’s. We then had the excellent young students of Longcroft Gospel Choir who really got the audience clapping, followed by Beverley Grammar School’s Matthew Gilbert, a brilliant self-taught guitarist with his own unique style. The wonderful Chambermaids quintet followed before the first half closed with Roos & Holderness Singers, one of the best mixed choirs in Yorkshire.

The second half opened with a complete change of style with soprano Kathryn Straw singing some popular classics, followed by our own well-known tenor, Rotarian Andrew Eastwood with songs from the musical shows. The pair then dueted with All I ask of Kathryn&Andrewyou from Phantom of the Opera. Closing the show with a swing was the very talented Harry Collins performing songs by Frank Sinatra and other members of the Rat Pack. The total money raised for charities was £3000.

New Year's Hornsea Hike

hike16The 16th Annual New Year's hike took place on Sunday 11th January 2015 and was once again well support. The event raised over £220 for Grey Hound Rescue and other Rotary Charities.

The route was Densholme Farm to Rolston then onto Great Hatfield where walkers enjoyed an excellent bacon sandwich lunch prepared by Rotary and friends.

The walk was 8 miles in total undertaken in overcast winter sunshine and across the gentle surrounding wonderful  country side. Walkers were home by 2.30pm, happily tired and looking forward to the next walk.

Once again a huge thanks to all those who supported the event be it as a walker, sponsor or helper. Thank you to all.
